What is NEW and UPCOMING in the Mariquita Farm fields? When? For how long?
Updated April 22nd , 2007
Hi Kitchens:
I’m waiting for the cold to pass before I put out the cucumbers, but the Greek Basil and Genovese Basil are planted and growing. Young Chioggia beets are here by 4/28. The tomatoes are going in now, and the peppers are getting planted this week. The first wave of potatoes (French Fingerlings) are about an inch high, and the Austrian Crescents and Rose Finns are going to be planted soon. Next fall’s Jerusalem artichokes are up. Also, I’m planning on working this season with Adrian Albor (Montebello Farm), a former employee of ours who is starting his own farm. Adrian is a great grower and he’ll be doing some regular vegetables as well as some of the traditional Mexican greens like huazontle (an Aztec amaranth green) that are of special interest to him. Thanks for your support. We hope to see some of you on Saturday, 4/28. (Fava Bean Upick: public time = 9am to noon, chefs are welcome anytime between 9am and 4pm: but be sure to let us know if you're going to show up in the afternoon. thanks.)
